Helsingborg: New mapping reveals untapped waste heat resources

A new study has identified previously unused sources of industrial waste heat across the city of Helsingborg, creating opportunities for more efficient energy use and industrial cooperation.

Engineering consultancy firm Sweco carried out the mapping on behalf of the City of Helsingborg and in collaboration with the energy company Öresundskraft as part of the Hydrosym project.

Using public refrigerant reports and interviews with businesses, the project produced a detailed map showing where surplus heat is generated, its temperature levels and how it could potentially be reused. The findings are expected to support resource efficiency, reduce energy waste and encourage industrial symbiosis. The map may also help future businesses select locations close to available heat sources, lowering their energy consumption.
